The first memory of Mom making what I now refer to as her homegrown slow-cooked tomato sauce was the first fall we experienced life on the Eastern End of Long Island.
I remember coming home from college to her bustling with excitement; "Come see my tomato garden!" - she was absolutely joyful about the harvest! When crafting salsa and caprese salad grew old, she began making a rustic tomato sauce.
I have had many-a-versions of tomato sauce before; nothing comes close to Mom's though! Eventually, after watching her make it many times, I began to make it myself and though I cannot say that it is as good as hers, I can say that it is pretty excellent.
Mama's Home-Grown & Slow-Cooked Tomato Sauce
1. Tomatoes! Preferably organic
4. Olive Oil
7. Sea Salt
