I like simplicity. It makes the woman important. I want clothes to help us relax into ourselves. (Eileen Fisher)
How do you decide where to work?
I think it is crucial to find companies with missions that resonate with you, which is why I have decided to include Eileen Fisher on my "Dream Companies to Work For" list. Though I am far from a feminist, I do strongly believe in women’s empowerment initiatives which is why I feel so inspired by the Eileen Fisher company. I also strongly believe that brands should be more than just a name with a pretty face wearing pretty clothing- brands have more power than the individuals that they are composed of, and therefore they should do more for the environment in which they operate in. The Eileen Fisher company has a similar philosophy.
Since spokespeople from Eileen Fisher did not make it to the career fair, I became determined to speak to someone from the company. I decided to post on their LinkedIn page and was somewhat hopeful that somebody would respond to my rather random message.
My wish was answered when a recruiting coordinator messaged me. After a couple messages back and forth, I was granted an exploratory interview with this recruiter (I may have been jumping up and down...)
I sat in the New York City Eileen Fisher offices and was in awe- this is where I wanted to come every day. What candy for my soul! Everything was just so...natural. So zen. I loved it! The wood floors and desk, the rather open floor plan, the natural fiber rug…not to mention the positive energy that radiated through the space.
I went into the interview not really knowing what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised at how well it went. It began with the cliche question of, “Please tell me about yourself” but became more of a discussion on how my values were related to the values of the Eileen Fisher company. It was intriguing to me because the coordinator had no intention of working for a fashion company yet he found himself attracted to the ideals of Eileen Fisher and now he can't imagine working somewhere else- it just goes to show that being open-minded can lead to excellent opportunities.
The exploratory interview went very well, though in the end I was told that there were no available positions in my field. This just means I'll have to keep checking their career site!
