I'll admit it- I am a social media junkie, of sorts. Yes, I have a twitter. And a Pinterest. And a Facebook. And an account on Instagram. Not to mention I read blogs (and post on this one!) I've got nothing to hide because I am very connected on the World Wide Web. I am part of the social media-techy generation, this is what I do.
One day, while perusing Instagram, I found the account of the Fashionable Hostess. As I looked at the photos I was completely in awe of this woman's life- it seemed like she had it all: the husband, the baby, the style...
Could I have her life, now please?
Naturally, I began to follow her Instagram. This quickly transformed into me insta-stalking her every move. I knew that she was in Miami, I knew that her little girl was wearing a Zara peacoat, I knew what she was making for dinner...and I didn't feel the least bit strange about any of it. It's the 21st century, after all, and it is seemingly encouraged by the amount of social media outlets to follow every move of the people you care about.
So why care about the Fashionable Hostess? Well, there is no doubt that Amanda Gluck, the Fashionable Hostess, loves what she does. Her passion for being a mother, a wife, a cook, a fashionista, an event planner is so clearly demonstrated in her blog posts and her Instagrams that there is no denying it. It is precisely this demonstration of passion that led me to reach out to her and ask if she would have the time and the interest in meeting.
She said yes!
I met her at a cafe in her neighborhood- apparently, her second office. She shared with me that she accidentally stumbled upon her current career as a blogger. After deciding that a program at Macy's was not for her, she worked in PR...then moved on and was hoping to do editorial. At the advice of someone in the industry she began a blog as a way of establishing a voice for herself. Before she knew it, her voice became popular and her blog took off.
Though it was an accident, Amanda stuck with it because being the Jill of all trades and blogging about it is something she is truly passionate about. She loves entertaining- establishing the mood, scouring stores for the perfect tabletop accessories, finding the perfect recipes to serve....
Meeting with Amanda was inspirational because I have always stuck with the notion that a person finds their career; in Amanda's case, though, it was the opposite: her career found her.
